Day 2: Coach House! - Arjhong

From the airport in Houston, to wandering in the Chicago snow searching for the nearest pizza place, to finally finding our way to Jamaica, the Post Oak students had a spectacular two days. Finding ourselves in a Jamaican Airport was indeed a blessing. For many, we walked through uncharted land and found ourselves at a location known as customs. Somehow, some way, we all made it out intact. We were curious to see what was hiding behind the large doors that were unfortunately separating us from seeing what Jamaica is able offer. Finally, we walked through these automatic doors and caught ourselves in a world opposite of the one we were in yesterday. From a silent, relaxing, freezing cold Chicago, to a humid, hot, lively place, surprisingly not called Houston, but Jamaica!

Looking through our bus window, the rain must have melted because last I recall, it was snowing. Bobbing and weaving through the jungle, driving on the left side of the street, avoiding goats, we arrived at a steep hill. Having to maneuver myself and look up this hill, I was still unable to see an ending or a top. In a bus with twelve teenagers and three adults, I told myself, “okay, time to grab my bags and begin the hike.” I suddenly felt this jerk as the van driver put it in law gear, and the next thing I knew this bus had pulled up right next to our lodging. Pulling up to the Good Hope Coach House was truly an amazing moment, as we had exemplified perseverance, dedication, commitment, and maybe some luck here and there just to get here.

Leaping out of the bus, staring down a hill that looked like a cliff, we all got a good look at the Coach House. Walking in, I saw a pool out of the corner of my eye.  Being a child in the body of a seventeen-year-old, I ran straight to this pool only to feast my eyes on the most beautiful sight I had ever seen in Jamaica. A crystal-clear infinity pool, with a gorgeous view of the Good Hope plantation, frosted with fog. Words are unable describe this view, truly.

An end to a great day, we all had much to take away from our experiences. Some learned that giving up is just never an answer. Sometimes it may take sheer passion and commitment to obtain what you want in life. Others learned that Post Oak is family, that there will always be someone who cares about you and loves you for who you truly are, especially when you need them the most.
